I have a BO chick that is about 4 and a half weeks old. It was sexed a pullet, however I know there is always a chance of getting a roo. This is my very first time with chickens, but my suspicions are rising that it is a lil roo. The comb is very pink and it is beginning to develop pink waddles (the pic below is of he/she). I have read that BO chickens grow quickly, but I have also read that the comb and waddles don't turn red on a pullet until she is getting ready to lay. The comb is by far darker and deeper in color than any of my other girls. I can't have a rooster where I live, so I will have to rehome; the feed store I got it from will take a roo back, but I would love to find him a nice flock if he is indeed a he. lol What do ya'll think? Cockrel, pullet, too early to tell still and I could have an early bloomer? I know I should know more by 3 mo based on saddle feathers, but I'd like to find it a home before it crows if it is a cockrel as I have a neighbor that complains about any and all noise. Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Buffy the Bug Slayer...or maybe it's just Buff lol

I hate that my toilet is in the pic, but oh well. They are in a 55gal tub in my tub and I don't have a run completed yet to protect them from the dogs! Should have it done this week!

So I was running through the list of themed masculine names for him to suggest (Angel, Xander, Spike, Giles, etc) then realized name won't matter cause you say you can't keep a rooster. Sorry, he's all boy.

Thanks for the input. Ya'll are just confirming my suspicions. I think I'm going to start looking for a home for him. It's sad because it is the only chick that I actually dove in and hand picked at the feed store! Oh well. He is an ornery little guy! He likes to pounce on the girls and is bossy! I think they will be much calmer without him. I'm frustrated because I can only have 5 hens total where I live, so I'm going to have to look for an older chick 5 weeks+ since I hear it isn't good to raise one tiny chick by itself. Too bad. There are some really cute week old silver laced wayndottes at the feed store right now. Unless anyone thinks the small chick would be okay with the bigger girls?

If you keep them next to each other in separate pens so they can see and communicate with the week old but not pick on her, then move them together when she is a little older, she will be fine. She'll get the socialization without risk of injury.

Sorry about the roo. I've been through that too many times and it is very tough. I seem to have a knack for accidentally hand-picking the boys. I can pretty accurately select girls for other people I'm with, but when it comes time to pick out my own from the box... Nope.

I found a great lady to take my lil roo! She has like 30+ chickens and is going to pick him up from the feed store today. While I was there their chicks were by one get one Free! I couldn't resist! We picked up two more girls! A black austrolorp and a silver wyandotte. Excited! What's one more chicken?

I'm glad he has a good home!
