I candled a couple eggs that my broody hen is setting on and I could see very well defined, good sized air sacs in the larger ends. The rest of the egg looked dark/shadowy in both. My flashlight wasn't the best/brightest so I couldn't make out a shape or see movement. Do you think there is a chick in it? I believe the eggs are about day 15 in incubation age.

I also candled a turkey egg that the same hen is setting on but that one was definitly infertile. The light shone right through the egg.

I have a buff brahma roo named Chuck Norris and a mixed breed rescue roo named Forest Gump. Chuck Norris is about twice the size of Forest Gump and is the only roo I've seen mating with my light brahma hens. I also have 6 mixed hens (also rescued), one of which is setting on some eggs I'm hoping will hatch in 1-1/2 weeks.

I don't think I will ever get over the excitement and joy of candling an egg and seeing life take form in front of my eyes... truly amazing! Then they hatch and are SOOOO darn cute!!! Congrats!

My broody hen hatched a chick Tuesday night.
The other egg hadn't changed all week, It looked like a quitter.
Never any movement, the dark area was odd shaped and only filled less than half the egg.
On Friday evening, I pulled it (bad egg) from my broody and slipped her another chick.
I wanted to open the egg that didn't make it, to determine what went wrong. I procrastinated and put it in the bator.
I had been sure all week it had died. Imagine my surprise when I went to finish the deed today (Saturday) and it had piped.
I am still waiting on it to finish hatching.

I have three roos, all bantam.
Even though I have never seen him mate with the hens,
that first chick was obviously fathered by my smallest roo.
He must be a sneaky little devil, LOL!

I named my buff brahma roo Chuck Norris because he's a cheeky fellow who sometimes catches me off guard and all I see is feet and feathers coming at me, karate style. The rescue roo I named Forest Gump because he came to us with 2 toes on one foot that are bent at a 90 degree angle at the first joint. He gets around fine but is low man to Chuck Norris. When my bigger roo chases him I feel like yelling "Run, Forest, Run!
