I guess one thing we can agree on is that she is wheaton colored...I think she is a barnyard wheaton mutt...her earlobes are red I think...but she does look a lot like your birds. How large is a maran? Because she is my smallest adult hen. I have what I think is a leghorn, or a leghorn cross hen that is only slightly larger than she is..I say a cross because she has the small body and great laying, and the big floppy comb o f leghorn hen, but she lays a really light brown pinkish colored egg... so I don't know what she is, but she lays an egg almost everyday...
I don't know if this mama hen has started laying since having her chicks almost 5 months ago...I have found one very very small much darker colored egg in the nest boxes, but I also have a Buff Orpington hen that is at the POL...so hopefully I'll figure out soon who gave me the tiny egg...I have pics of the difference between the tiny egg I found and the egg that my small leghorn (maybe mix) lays, oh, and the leghorn(mix)? also lays x-large or jumbo eggs, which is funny because she is small.
The big egg just looks white in this pic, but they are actually pretty off white...can leghorns lay off white eggs?
Next tiny egg I'll put something else in the pic for sizing...but the leghorn(mix?) eggs are a size larger than the large eggs we get at the store, and the small egg was what I assume would be a small egg, or medium...Either way, much smaller than the large store eggs, or x-large leghorn egg.
