I think we have a broody!

Our silkie girl, Miko, has been acting quite supsicious. Now shes sitting in the coop acting very protective. So I put 2 non hatchin eggs near her to test if she is, so then she nudged both eggs underneath her, and is acting even more protective. What should we do? Is there any other way than giving her some hatching eggs or chicks (even though I would love that!).

Best way to deal with a broody is to let her hatch some chicks

Now if you can't do that then you can try to break her from it but that at times can be very hard to do once they get it in their little head they are more stubborn than a old Pollock.. lol ( no offence to the Polish peoples I am married to one

Yes, breaking broodiness can be very tricky. Having spent a few days laying eggs having broken her from broodiness, she promptly parked herself in an old rabbit pen to sit on (a very warm) stone. She has now got 2 days to hatching the fertile eggs I gave her (fingers AND toes crossed). If you really don't want chicks she may need to go into a dog crate or similar for a few days with 'loss of privileges'.

I want some eggs, but mum doesnt necceserily...

If we do get eggs, but by the time they get here she isn't broody anymore, what should we do with the eggs?

Not a lot you can do apart from either putting them in an incubator or eating them. Sometimes giving a not very committed broody a clutch of eggs focuses her attention and she will sit, but this cannot be guaranteed. Best of luck whatever you decide to do,
