I think We Have Another Indy-Check Out Gargantua-Chick

Yes, that chick on the far left in the bottom pic has no tail! Could be a slow growing cockerel?? Legs look pretty delicate though. Very confusing....

That one is barred exactly like every BR pullet I ever had with the single band of barring near the end of the wings, and it has absolutely NO comb so you see how confused I am by its "tail-less" look at almost 4 weeks old. And it's very petite as well. This is a confusing bunch but ever since I had these mixes, I've been unable to sex them as easily as the pure BRs or the pure Delawares.

This is the mother of that tail-less barred one you mentioned, Leyla, the black hen in the middle, named Raven. She is a pretty big hen. Not sure which male fathered it, not for sure, but probably Rex. There are three of Raven's chicks in those 9 chicks in the bantam coop and they're all smaller than the others they hatched with for some reason. If Tiny is Raven's mother as I at one time suspected, that would explain it, since Tiny is a 4-5 lb hen.

Well, if you could sex them all at this age, there would be no anticipation!!

The spice of life....wondering who is going to crow and who is going to lay an egg! Keep us posted with pics so we can see if the tailess bird turns out to be a he after all. With those tiny legs and no comb, I am betting on a slow to feather pullet.

Then, as Captain Picard on Star Trek would say, "Make it so."

I always say the best sexing method is the "Wait and See Method". Works every time!

Here is where I have issues....I can't stop myself from becoming attached!! I keep so many unwanted male quail that I just can't butcher. I raised these boys from the egg and wow, my heart is just too soft now.

Well, then, aren't we birds of a feather!

You too??? Oh good! I figured with all the birds you keep, the size of your flock and the length of time you have been doing this, that you were an old pro at processing birds. I was raised on a farm with horses, cattle, poultry...I have watched my parents and grandparents process chickens before, and I never gave it a lot of thought back then!

But now, I hatch them, work with them, enjoy them, I just can't do it!!!

I desperately wish I could! I can take care of varmints that cause trouble in the night, I can kill the half dead mice that get caught in the traps, I can take out the squirrels that steal chicken eggs or try to burrow under the house. But I just can NOT take one of my babies lives!! If they are suffering or dying, I have the courage to end their lives. But live healthy ones.....

So I don't feel alone now.

those aren't legs those are PILLARS. Fast forward I see TY flattening buildings with one
step., devouring whole bags of feed without a burp, and hens running for their lives.

Maybe you'll need Jersey Giant hens for him. Imagine what you would get from that.

P.S. I think he is adorable but, just the same I would make sure he knew I was a "good guy," from the start
