We let our dog hang around while we butchered. I think he likes the taste of chicken blood now.

Yesterday and today we put him up while we butchered but I think it might be a little late. We butcher outside and that might make it worse but I still wish I had had him put up everyday we butchered.

Put your dogs up while butchering!

Well, I had my two small dogs shut inside during the butchering but then later I gave them the heads...which I wasn't sure was a good idea but I didn't want to waste them. Oh they were so happy! They have been around the chickens today and are very interested but mostly in sniffing/liking the bird butts. However, I'm not going to give them the opportunity to try anything. I definitely don't want the added joy of two over-excited white dogs dancing around in a bunch of spurting chicken blood- so they will be inside again next time (this weekend).

I have a Heeler and a Great Dane. They both love it when I cull/butcher. Heads are their favorite then the feet. They understand the difference in a live one and a head I throw to them. Same with chicks. They'll munch them like a milkbone, when I give it to them. I trust them 100% with my free rangers.

Another thing is that the other birds don't care at all. They fight over the heads too. Might be a little gruesome, but people put too many human emotions into an animal with a brain the size of a pea.

Just make sure your dog knows the difference. Good Luck. Blaine
