I thought Barred Rocks were dual purpose. Our first processing and it's a sad chicken. *Update page

You did a wonderful job of plucking him. Our barred rock roos had black in the skin after we plucked them so we skinned them. I canned mine but they tasted like chicken. The legs were so long one roo's legs wouldn't fit in a canning jar. We decided to stick with the CX for meat after processing just 6 roosters. We gave away the other 10 roosters.

My big problem with the whole thing is I'm in the barfing stage of pregnancy. I'm not a squeamish person but with how much I already hate food, add in the processing and at this point I haven't been able to eat any meat at all. lol Poor rooster is going to waste on me!

Oh man, I hope you did most of the work outside. When I was pregnant I couldn't eat chicken at all - this was before we grew our own . I couldn't imagine butchering while being pregnant.

My husband did the gutting but I was watching. It wasn't so bad but I certainly couldn't imagine eating chicken after that. lol I didn't eat much meat for quite awhile. I'm feeling way better now so I think I could eat chicken again. Maybe I'll actually try some eggs now. lol
