I thought chickens loved pumpkins?

Just in case you have a Walmart near you...check with them. I know our local one has put all pumpkins on sale for 50 cents EACH (not per pound) just today, doesn't matter the size.​

X 2! Mine loved the pumpkin guts. I didn't want to give them the days old jack o lantern though. I have one pumpkin left that just had Mr. Potato head pieces stuck in it, I think I'll cut it up and bake it tomorrow and freeze pieces of it to give them. I only have 8 girls, but I'm amazed at how much they can pack away in one sitting. Got our first egg today so they deserve a special treat!

ours is selling them by the pound

but last year the chickens weren't THAT impressed with pumpkin.

This year that they can't free range anymore they do seem to appreciate the treats more, but I ain't buyin them stinkin leftover pumpkins BY THE POUND, nope sorry no can do. Although, my sister in law likes to buy leftover pumpkins for the seeds, maybe she will give me the rest of the pumpkins (the hard, not baking kind) and I might try baking them a bit to soften them for the girls. If somebody else buys them, I'll try it

coz I think she's gonna be buying them anyway so why not?

Sorry but the pumpkin is gone! I still have another one sitting on the porch waiting to be carved for the girls. I promise to get a pic next time!

That is just too funny even visualizing. I will have to try it with the next pumpkin I put in.

I love giving my chickens Pumpkin. They love it. Of course whenever I bring treats into the coop I have to hold them above my head to avoid them from jumping up and knocking it out of my hands. Believe me they have done that several times.

Speaking of which I still have a Pumpkin to process today into Pumpkin Pie filling for my bread and pies.
