I throw up every single time...

One thing I learned from DW is you never go anywhere empty handed.

So try this, bring something you all like to drink, not water, and also bring a dish to pass that is something YOU made. It can be a side dish of Mac salad or Baked Ziti and a dessert. Cake , cookies your specialty or stop and buy some dish that you know is safe. Bring everything in disposable dishes and leave it there when you go. The dollar store is great for this.

I usually only eat what DW brings when we go places though we don't have this problem.

When you use the John make sure you wipe things down with a handi wipe before touching anything. All knobs and drawer pulls. You could bring a small can of lysol in your purse and casually just spray touchable surfaces.

When my temporary livein DD 's cat got hit buy a car I wasn't to dissapointed. Cuz she would get on the counter. So their cat may be doing the same and you may not be seeing it.

Stick some wipes in your purse. Give the kids a few individual wipes to stick in their pockets and be sure they wash their hands when they use the John. You would be surprised at the people who don't wash after using the facilities.

And if this is a stressful thing keep the visit short , an hour or two.

As a gift you might buy them a water filter for their sink.

Of course if you hold a match to the water and catches fire then a filter won't be much help.

I wish you good health,

Wow, their both in their 90s and they don't get sick? You're probably not used to their environment. It's pretty amazing how people get set in their ways when they get older - don't clean very well etc....noticed that with my parents too....

I remember visiting my Dad in Fla and seeing how yucky things were

and he was fine, lived to be 95.

A lot of good suggestions made, how about rodents, do they have a problem where critters are coming in and walking all over things and leaving their dirt? Hope you figure it out and don't get sick this time! I wouldn't look forward to going there.........

There is a lesson to be learned in those sentences. I've never met a germaphobe that lived to be in their 90s. Most folks that age lived and survived when there wasn't all these disinfectant cleaners to readily available.

I know the older my grandmother has gotten, the less likely she is to check dates on cans of food. Well, any food, for that matter. Can the family all take turns taking the whole bunch out to eat? That's a hard one, to get away with cleaning the place and/or eating elsewhere without offending someone. But you could tell them you want to make sure they don't feel like they have all the mess to clean up.

Doesn't she get sick too??? Might be time for the "FDA" to send her some food warnings in the mail and a notice about ecoli outbreaks in her area.....
