I want a BIG WHITE chicken...which one?

Rhode Island White are there own breed and have nothing to do with the Rhode Island Red except they both have Rhode Island in there name..

Technically the true breed name of the R.I. Red is just Red...

Chris

I didn't know that, thanks! I thought they were just another color of RIR. Like BBS Orps. Thanks for letting me know.

A lot of people think there the R.I. White and the R.I. Red are the same breed..
wink.png

Rhode Island Reds come ether Rose or Single Comb but the Rhode Island White can only have a Rose Comb...
The Single Comb "R.I. White" that hatcheries sell are not a true R.I. White and is a cross breed that falsely they are calling a Rhode Island White...

I have white JErsey Giants that I got last March. They were in an order of 25 chicks total for us. I have 4 of them and they are sweet and pretty big and lay beautiful brown eggs. I also have some Delaware hens that are white but have a little bit of black speckling on their necks and tail feathers. I have one white Leghorn and she is a lone chick because I traded an aggressive rooster for her. She is sweet, but by all means she is not a Big hen. She does lay big white beauties, but is also skiddish. I don't know much about the rest of the hens. But I have some Red Stars that I believe have White Rock/RIR parents. Only the male would be cream. But I bet the Orpington of the White Rock would be a nice addition. Good Luck with makin your decision on which white hen you want.

From your list...my vote would absolutely be for the White Orp! I have buff orps and they are so Big & Stately looking as they free range in my yard! Plus they are seriously like puppies...the minute they see you they come running ad I mean running up to greet you!

Anyway, I also have a white cochin hen who is a sweetheart too but she only lays med. size eggs. Anyway, let us know what your pic is!

Me, I love Delawares, though they are not on your list. I don't care for an all-white chicken (Dels even have too much white for my taste), but they are mostly white with barring in hackles and black in the tail. Also, a Columbian Rock is nice, but hard to find.

Dels are chunky, friendly birds who lay really pretty beigey-peachy-pinkish-tan eggs. Isaac is my avatar and here is his daughter, Gracie.

White rock or white Orp

I just lost Mabel the most amazing BO so that was my first choice.....In fact I had some eggs in the bator (I'm hatching now) but none of those white orp eggs made it

Your Issac is absolutey gorgeous:)). I have a Jack that looks alot like your Issac. He is such a sweet boy to his girls and just outright gorgeous. I can't help but smile everytime I look at him.

Those are three awesome breeds, Cheryl. The Delaware girls are fabulous layers and so friendly as to be underfoot all the time. And Plymouth Rocks are at the top of my list, though I prefer the barred and blue/black/splash to the white variety.

bbs? oh I'll have to look that up

I'm trying fill the bator for a 4/26 date and I'm like in a candy store of breeds, can't get this list narrowed down!!
