I think it's a great idea to start a thread for your country. I like buying show quality eggs from breeders/showers on here and then hatching out my own! You can choose which ones to keep and usually not have one bit of a problem selling the rest.
I really just started, am lucky to realized early that I didn't want just laying birds. I attribute that to the fact that when I was in college I was lucky to meet a little girl who was a 4Her and showed chickens. She told me a lot about chickens. My chickens are a mix of hatchery birds, feeds store adults, and breeder birds. And yes, the breeder birds are beautiful. The hatchery chicks that are now adults are sweet and love me. I guess the best of all worlds is to get eggs from a breeder and hatch them.
I think more important than perfect dimensions is getting a breed you like and think is pretty. That way, even if the bird is not all up to par, you'll still love the fact that is it a breed you like.
There are no ugly chickens, except what is served at dinner, and then it is yummy!
