I think you would cut off the extra length after putting the zip tie on. I like the permanent marker idea-going from left to right on the marked toes.

Bumping for any more ideas.... though I am starting to pay more attention to their faint-but-different markings. I've got the barred rocks sorted, but the sex-links are trickier.

Yeah...but I have 29 chickies and it's so much easier with the leg bands!!!

We use 4" zip ties in different colors also. You just have to check them every day, since the chicks grow so fast. I hope you can see it on this chicks leg.



We found our zip ties at Wal Mart.
They came in about 6 different colors.
