I want to do the water test on my hens eggs how old do the eggs have to be

Was wondering how many days old the eggs have to be to do the water test on them I don't want to kill any babies

Most people water candle when eggs are overdue and right before they turn off the incubator on unhatched eggs. The only thing the water test will tell you is that if the egg wiggles, (and it needs to be full-size) that the chick is alive. If you don't see the water ripple or the egg move, the chick could be sleeping, or possibly dead.
