I Want to Know More About Khaki Campbell Ducks

I have Khaki’s and i love them they are characters,mine play all day in the creek,some fly some don’t they are very smart they are a handful at times they can be stubborn but they are a great duck.

I did keep a few Khakis when I had pekins. They are prolific egg layers (almost non stop). They are also a lot more afraid of people and tend to run when you enter the pen.

I raised mine from ducklings in a separate area from the pekins so the larger males wouldn't hurt the females. They were very skittish and stand-off-ish. I would absolutely not trust them free range. They would be gone in a heartbeat.
Even clipped they can fly pretty high.

As for the pools, I just did it the hard way. When they froze I'd flip them over and slide the ice block out, then refill. You can also buy pond warmers, but you have to be careful around the ducks since they can get burnt on them. I hope this helps!

Does this mean my KC can fly? Will she fly away? She sticks to me like glue right now but she is two months old. Even when she goes to sleep she hunt and pecks to find my fingers just to know I am nearby before she will go to sleep. I did not know they could fly.

Most khaki do not fly, but I have one who can. He is free range, but never leaves the property. He prefers swimming. He rarely flys.

So here's my experience of having Khakis (though bear in mind, I've only been raising them since January):

I bought a bunch of non-sexed ducklings from Metzer and ended up with 1 KC drake, 3 KC hens, 2 Rouen drakes and 1 Rouen hen. They're all one big happy flock right now - though I may end up segregating them once the hens start laying. The KCs are definitely more standoffish...but so is the Rouen hen. Only the Rouen drakes are really very trusting of me, even though I raised them from a couple days old and handled them a fair amount. Still, they aren't too tough to catch when I need to, and are fairly easily herded where I need them to go. I keep them penned when I'm not home, but the rest of the time they are allowed to free range. They mostly contain their wanderings between their pen and the drainage ditch that bisects my property. That is their beloved swimming hole. The KCs can fly a bit, though I've only ever seen one do it for much of a distance and she was only a foot or two off the ground. No problems with them trying to escape yet. I guess we'll cross that bridge if we get there.

I saw someone mention bedding for the ducklings earlier and the thing I used (and still use now that they're big) are the compressed pine pellets. They're great at soaking up liquidy duck poo and I find them a LOT less mess than straw.

We’ve only had Khaki Campbells, raised by hand from eggs we incubated. None of them are skittish or flighty…. My kids have held them, played with them, and hand fed them treats from day one. If they are out, we call and they all come running.
Also we get about 9 eggs a week from one of our hens…. I love KCs!!
