I want to raise more chickies! I'm planning to raise Easter eggers and rhode island reds? COuld you tell me youre experiences with these types of chicks and could you recommend me with a hatchery that sells these chicks at good prices? and you could also recommend me different types of chicks, but i like a chick that is friendly and could make a great pet and preferrably small in size. thanks

I love my EE and she was my best layer this winter while my BR and buttercup were molting. My RIR is a sweety to people, but not so nice to new chickens being integrated into the flock. They've seemed to settle down now though. My RIR is also a great layer.

As for hatcheries, there's lots: Mypetchicken, Ideal, Cackle, McMurray, Estes, etc.

I like my rir for layers, but i wouldn't really consider them the best type for a pet, nor are they particularly small. They're the more aggressive of the breeds i raise.

I would recommend EEs. I raised one EE chick (only one to hatch) and she is very sweet, great pet. I now have 10 chicks, 3 weeks old. 6 are EE, 1 barred rock, 1 black sex link, 1 red star, 1 buff orpington. So far the buff orpington is the sweetest girl in the bunch but one of the EEs is also very sweet. The barred rock is the only one out of the bunch that seems to fear me and gets upset when I hold her (constantly chirps). I'm hoping with more consistent attention on my part I can get her to like me!

If you want small then consider some of the bantams. Just remember that they'll lay a small egg too! That's the reason I decided not to go with bantams.
