I bought my chickens some crickets from the bait shop. Man, they didn't last long at all!!!

Also, sometimes I find them crickets in the yard and feed them, but that's IF I can catch it.

Anyway, I'd like to set up a cricket trap of some sort and have all the crickets I can handle. I'd eventually like to have enough for me to get hubby to build me a place for the crickets like the bait store has so I can go out there and get crickets anytime I want.

So, if anyone knows, please let me know how to start catching some crickets around here.

Thanks in advance.

The best way to catch your own crickets is as follows. You start with a whole loaf of unsliced bread.Slice it lengthwise.Hollow out the inside but leave ends alone hollow out a hole in one end just big enough for a cricket to enter,Put halves back together secure with rubber band.Place in tall grass over night and check in the morning.

Hmmmmm....or you could scramble some eggs, throw the bread loaf in the oven and have a white bread mystery burrito with eggs for breakfast!

Hi there, I am a newbie, 4 pullets and 2 babies right now. Our coop is the old dog kennel and has limited dirt (no bugs) so we buy the meal worms at the feed store and leave them out of the fridge so they turn into beetles and BAM! happy chickens! we tried purchasing the crickets at the feed store but they are fast little suckers and many got out of the coop before the chickens found them. good luck!
