I wanted to share photos of my little red sex link hen!

Welcome to BYC, BrokenArrowChic!

Your little girl is darling. You're going to love watching her grow! They're so much fun to have around. I would surely recommend getting her a friend, too. If you read around on these forums, you'll be able to tell boy chicks from the girls more easily. Usually the girls will start to feather out faster, so you'll probably see wing feathers and signs of a tail sooner on them. Also, if you get another Red Sex-link or a Black sex-link, you're guaranteed to have girls. Hope that helps!

Thank you! I will surely keep that in mind, I ordered a coop yesterday so I'm holding off picking out another chick until the coop gets here, this way I will have plenty of room for everyone.

A guy I went to high school with has a Masters in Poultry Science so he's been giving me lots of help but this site is just great for everything!

I have one red sex-link too! She used to have a buddy, but my sisters dog got her. Although, she is not alone. She lives with my 4 ducks. She is really friendly too :D

I've been reading on here that red sex links have great dispositions and I really believe that now!

I have the sexlink chickens. They look so funny when they start to feather out. I had a group of 8 babies that got to be inside in a cage until they got old enough to go outside. I go sit in the pen and they jump up on my lap and want pets.. They look just like your little girl there. I absolutely love my girls. except when they are sitting on my lap and then take and poop. ewww lol. But they are so cute.

My red sex links are not only great layers but the friendliest birds I have. I hope you enjoy her. We had 5, lost 3 due to a fox last week, very hard, but the other 2 carry on and are as friendly as ever. Have fun!

Really hope you get another one for your coop, you will enjoy listening to them coo at each other, lots of positives with chickens, my favorite is how they talk settling in for the night. My husband was okay with me getting birds, but a few months into it, his buddies even said, "you like those birds!" as he bragged on what the girls had done. Give it time, your husband will have those birds grow on him!

Your pictures of her are darling. That funny feathering out stage is just the best. Yup, you need to get her a friend to play with. Unless you ordered a 3 X 3 coop, you will be fine with 2. If you get her a freind soon before she gets much older they will be just like sisters! you can tell RSL's apart male and female no problem. I bet you could find her a friend really easy on here. I bet a lot of us would be willing to donate her a buddy ASAP.

I have 7 RSL's and they are my best layers and are my friendliest girls.

For anyone who remembers my story on why I call my girls 'pickleheads' look at the last picture of her cutie! See? she looks like a body with a pickle for a head and neck!!!!!!

Welcome to the site by the way, you are a true addict now.
