I suppose there's no reason it shouldn't work. I guess I'm just having a hard time getting my head around having two, in-line rheostats.

Come to think of it, I've got a boat load of crock pots laying around too. They would have a built-in ballast.

crock pot on a rheostat sounds good.........

Last spring my cockerels were Biscuit and Gravy. Incidentally Biscuit ended up over exactly that. Gravy, on the other hand, made a fine Paprikash.

I'm so sad--none of them made it.

Not sure what went wrong--I had them in cartons up until day 18--when I went into lockdown, I laid them on their sides. There was movement in all five on day 18. I really think changing the setup is what happened to them. I'm so frustrated that they made it that far and the last three days something went wrong. I believe the carton kept them insulated from the heat at the bottom of the skillet. I'm so mad at myself for doing that, I was just afraid if they hatched in the carton, they would be too close to the lid.

Since I was doing this for the grandkids, I went out today and adopted some babies--6 Comets. They are so little-- I wouldn't have the heart to tell them tomorrow that the chicks didn't make it. I am so in love with these little babies. Could just sit and watch them forever. I still have the other eggs in the skillet, kinda hoping for miracle I guess. I'm going to try this again sometime-- with a "real" incubator.
