I was given some eggs by avid smokers....

While I am on the opposite side of this, I sell to a family of smokers and used to get my carboard cartons back with an unpleasant smell. I immediately threw those away. What I have done since is to supply them with plastic cartons only. I run them threw my dishwasher when they are returned and there is no more smell. I am assuming that if the eggs also smell, you could just wash them when you get them. I think what is inside the egg is fine (unless their chickens smike, too!)

Hm... I think they could taste pretty rough. My step-son's mother gave us some bread out of her freezer and she's a heavy smoker and her bread TASTED like cigarettes...

Eggs are porous.. so I could imagine similar issues. It's likely not dangerous, but not particularly tasty either.

How did they turn out? I would be hesitant. First I'd toss the carton and put the eggs in a clean smelling one and hope ther stench would go away
