While I am on the opposite side of this, I sell to a family of smokers and used to get my carboard cartons back with an unpleasant smell. I immediately threw those away. What I have done since is to supply them with plastic cartons only. I run them threw my dishwasher when they are returned and there is no more smell. I am assuming that if the eggs also smell, you could just wash them when you get them. I think what is inside the egg is fine (unless their chickens smike, too!)
