I was looking at my rhode island egg chicken

she is brown. i noticed a thin layer of white was covering her few hairs on her head. what is this? and she might be moulting right now, not sure. she is 2 years old.

Do you have a picture? It could be something like a spider web that got caught on her feathers while being outside.

its not exactly feathers, they dont look soft. I'll take a picture tomorrow and post it.

If your girl looks about the same as the chicken in that picture then you have nothing to worry about. I see it quite often in baby chicks when they go through molting and regrow their feathers. It comes off of the feathers when you gently squeeze and pull at it.
