One other thing...
why do they preen like ducks? My original chickens don't do it, but all the new chickens I got (I don't know about the roo) have a skin "tag/gland" by their tail and they rub their heads through it just like a duck. Is this normal?

It's normal. They use the secretions to coat their feathers, to help protect them. You may also see them gather some work their break, them run their break down the length of their feathers.
