First off God is doing a wonderful miracle in my family's life so when that is done I will share the wonderful news! Second....my chickens don't love me! They only come to me when I have food. Since we have had all the rain it has been too nasty to go out there. I will prolly get to bond with them more come fall. I also have a pregnant cat and will be trying to find homes for all the babies.

Can I lay out lime around the coop because of the water standing for so long and the chicken pooping it stinks.

Oh and all the chickens are now healthy again. No more chicken pox. No predators either. Molly gets in the yard but she doesn't mess with the chickens. She only messes with them when we are out there silly dog.

Well, I'm afraid there are very few chickens who show genuine affection for people without a food motivator, but there are some. Lots of treats and time spent with the chickens will make them more friendly and a lot more fun.
I'm not sure lime is the whole answer to your problem...does it rain a lot where you are? Maybe you need to add a great deal more sand - I just did this in my run and it has helped immensely.

Cheri, Prayers are being said for your miracle.

I only got chickens because my grandson wanted to join 4-h and show chickens. What I have found is that there is a kind of peace in just watching chickens do chicken things. I suffer from severe anxiety (panic attacks). Since I have had chickens my attacks have lessened greatly. I spend hours taking care of and just watching them. Like I said, there is a kind of peace I get from hearing their silly little noises and watching them interact with each other. They are not lap chickens but they are very theraputic. Love is shown in many different forms and I truley believe that God sent these chickens to me for a purpose.

You may try a cat rescue for your kittens if you can't find good homes for them. Most will take kittens. It is the older cats that they will not take.

I will try the sand Blue. I don't think I can make the shows as I want to see my son graduate from AIT in Nov.

I already have 3 homes for 3 kittens. LOL! Thanks guys.

Good luck with everything...

Cheri - I live in Conroe, not all that far from you in Dayton. My 11 year old son played in a All-Star baseball tournament in Crosby against a team from Dayton - small world. Do you kids play baseball?

We have seen more than our fair share of rain this year, but on the positive side of things, my grass (weeds too) have never been greener. This week we seem to be getting a break from the rain, alot of the areas that are low are trying to dry up so I can mow the tall grass down.

I don't know what to say about the Chicken poop smell, our coop is a good distance from the house - so it doesn't bother us. Their coop/pen is also high and dry.

Wishing you the best for your family.

Dana
