I would have bet an arm and a leg...But

Well, while I was at work today she hatched out the second chick! I now have 2 cuties! I can't wait for them to grow out to see what they will look like. Should I call them Sulchins? or Cotans?

She moved them into the dog crate and has been showing them food already. She left the rest of the eggs. I candled them and gave two to her sister to sit on.

Anyway - here is surrogate mom and her two babies.

i love red laced cornish, btw yours are so pretty!

Tinychicky- Thank you. She is very pretty isn't she. This one has a white head and her sister has a red head. I had no idea the Cornish would even think about becoming broody! The three I have (I also have a dark cornish) are the most flighty and unfriendly of the older girls. Another reason this is such a surprise all around. She is so tolerant of me poking around there for the last few weeks getting out eggs and now checking out the kids. I am excited that for her first time she seemed dedicated to the job and sure enough got it done. I hope she can protect them when they move back into the flock.
I am so sorry you have lost your mama. That sucks. I am glad you have new ones to take her place. It does seem to help the pain of losing one you were so fond of.

I have never even thought of legacy and a flock because we never have had a broody before so I have always had to buy chicks or incubate eggs. So far this is so much easier letting her do all the work. And hopefully if they are girls, they can stay and keep the flock going like yours did.
