Hi all. This is my first post. Still trying to decide what chickens to get. So many choices, but think I'll start with a few Sussex and a few Easter Eggers. DH & I are still working on the coop / pen, but I'm inclined to order the peeps soon as I know they won't be big enough to put outside for a few months, right? We live in the South Central Texas Hill Country, outside of Bandera on the last 100 acres of the old family ranch. Only animals are 3 Golden Ret's, 1 Otterhound, 1 old cat and a Quaker Parrot, plus an assortment of deer or varrious types, wild hogs, hummingbirds, an occasional Rio Grande turkey and such. My guess for the free eggs is "945". Looking forward to learning more about all this. Will post photos of coop / pen as we progress.

PS we are thinking about using left over chain link fencing for part of the pen. Any thoughts?
