IA here

I've got a Japanese Bantam rooster, and whoa nelly did he have some frostbite with that really cold weather we had. He's all good now though. I am still having trouble controlling the danged scaly leg mites. I've got some feather legged birds, and they get really bad. I've thought of just plain dipping their whole entire foot in mineral oil or something like that. Any of you tried something along those lines? I've also got too many broodies! I've had a whole bunch (SEVEN) go broody since Jan! Even in the freezing cold! ugh! And with all the snow we've had, they are stuck inside quite a bit. My banties can't figure out snow.

Not Chubby Bubby I hope! She doesn't look like that does she?

No she looks awesome - I meant he was going to end up with a comb like an EE, it's all gonna fall off and be close to the head

Did some switching around in the barn tonight. Now I have all of my EE's and Ameraucana's housed together. The turkeys got booted outside and I put my Cuckoo Marans in there. So now I have pens of EE/Ameraucana's, Welsummers, Cuckoo Marans, and BBS STD Cochins. This weekend I'm picking up my BCM's!!!!!!! I'm so eggcited!!!! I need to figure out what I'm going to do with them yet. Might need to put the ducks in an outdoor pen that has a shelter. If it's big enough for horses, it's big enough for a few ducks.

If anyone wants hatching eggs or chicks, let me know.

Hey guys wanted to introduce my self, my name is LeAnn and we live in Story City iowa. We started with chickens last year when a freind said i needed some and brought my 5 GLW mix chicks from her parents farm. At the time i was mad because i told her i only wanted three

. as you all know the addiction grew and by oct we had 15 chickens, i really wanted a mix flock so we have a little bit of everything, SPH, silkies, BO, EE,and a mutt. In Nov we moved to a bigger farm that had a standing chicken house on it that housed 250 chickens at one time WAHOOOOOOOOOO:woot!!! then my friends took me to a chicken show in iowa City

and i brought home 10 more. so we keep it at the number for the winter, but have 16 new babies coming from Ideal on 3/3.

And i am already planning on what to get after that, so yes in less then a year i became addicted to chickens, but i wouldnt have it any other way.

Ok... leaving for a large swap meet in Hutchinson, MN in a few minutes. Taking lots of chicks and some older birds in hopes of thinning down the herd of birds. Had an idea for Chubby Bubby... just hop on 35, head north and hang a left at Hutchinson! I'll buy the cocktails... kiddie cocktails of course...
The swap is tomorrow but can set up today! Do you have any plans?

I understand the problem. I live in Des Moines and try keeping your numbers down bacause you live in the city...

I would love to join you Eric, but it looks like we are going to some kind of gun show today and my car doesn't have ice skate blades or heat. Funny thing - my daughter headed up to Mn yesterday. I could have sent Chubby with her. I got a few more chicks I need to get rid of and it looks like 70% of this last batch of chicks is gonna be roosters. Good thing the feed store owner likes me. Said to bring them in and he would sell them for me. I wonder if he can just give me store credit...

Hey Eric - what city/town do you live in again?
