Going to the Fair, not taking chickens. Anybody want a kitten? Stray Tom got my female before the spay appointment. What can I do to encourage my girls to eat the Oyster shell. My eggs are getting broken and nasty dirty. Also, my hens get huge lumps of hard mud hanging on the ends of thier toes. What a pain to have to try to get loose. How can I prevent this?

Saturday and Sunday August 14-15. Ther poultry has to arrive by 8 am on the 14th and is released on the 15th at 6pm. Judging is at 9 am on Saturday.

I mix a handful of oyster shell per gallon of crumbles. If they shells are really weak, you can add milk powder to their feed.

Every Summer and fall when the girls are free ranging, it takes a lot more oyster shell to keep their egg shells strong.

Thats what I do too Trish, add a scoop of oystershell and mix it in with a bucket of feed. In just a few days, girls that haven't laid in awhile will start popping out eggs. It's like adding magic egg oil or something!
