IA here

Shoulder doesn't hurt too bad but man do I have a killer head-ache. When we stopped at the store yesterday, we bought some Holloween candy to pass out. BIG MISTAKE! I can't stay out of it.

My hubby wants me to see if anyone has another silkie for sale. He wants to replace the one that the dog killed. Prefer B/B/S pullet. I think he likes the little fuzzies. He was playing with the NN chick yesterday.

He is a secret chicken addict...

Hmmm - I have been wanting to come up your way and see your guys set-up. That is if you allow. My hubby will be gone all next week, so it is an ideal time for me to travel

Is there any place local in IA that I could buy the chicken plucking fingers? We have made a homemade chicken plucker out of a drill for our cornish X chickens. I have my 2nd batch of them ready for butcher in a few weeks. Taking a little longer on them to grow because we let them free range and they have been slower growing. We also think they may have been a different cross. The chickens just seem different.

Anyway, the pattern we used had us using bungie cords, the black rubber ones and I think the plucking fingers will work a little better. I was hoping somewhere in Des Moines or something might have these.

Can you or should I say he, wait a few weeks for IA City? Not to eat the candy but to p/u a Silkie. The boys came home last night from t or t-ing and off to the shower with both of them. Lora and I dug through the bags! They had so much candy stuffed in their faces they couldn't talk anyway. They had a party for thier friends here on Sat. night. Why do boys get louder and louder with every word? I still have a headache! Bought a rubber mask when we were in Hutchinson and Thurs. morning Lora was washing her hair, in the kitchen sink, (cause it has a sprayer thingy)....... must be a girl thing?, anyway, I donned the masked and waited around the corner of the frige. When she was finished, I was trying so hard not to laugh that I made a little snorting noise, and she started around the frige corner to see what the noise was and I jumped out and she got ... angry? She was so scared she threw the shampoo bottle at me! It was worth the clean up!
Got chicks hatching today. They go right in with the week olds in the brooder. The 1st two are Delaware X Ameracauna. Tues. is the actual hatch day but some are early openers. I saw more pips and heard more peeping when I took them out this am.
Lincoln this weekend!

So why does my vet have to be closed on Mondays? Tucker has done something to his foot and I was going to take him in to get it looked at. Can they sprain their toes? He was in the backyard with the other dogs and when I went to bring them in he was gimpy. Nothing seems out of place or broken and there is no swelling. The pain seems to be in his toe area on his rear leg. I am wondering if he tried to leap over some of the chicken wire fencing and caught his foot in it.

This happened Saturday and I can't tell for sure if it is getting better or if he is just learning to balance on his tip-toe better. He will put weight on it occasionally and on Saturday he wouldn't do that.

Argg!

The chicken wire is all down now. It's not like it kept the chickens out of our garden...
