LOL... What happened with the empty post was... I lost my internet connection just as I hit send the first time and it failed to record what I'd entered. So it was back to the drawing board.
I did however refer to your loss. Did you ever have any Serama chicks? Or did Prince father any chicks?
He did father some chicks with my cochins but I gave them all away.
I haven't been letting the dogs out with the chickens because they have developed this severe pack mentality anymore. Yet today - I thought I had everyone locked up, let the dogs out and there was still one chicken out (apparently hiding)- they plucked her back. I need to find a way to build a run in the middle of winter...
Jet my three old frizzled barred black cochin will now be spending the winter in my basement in a locked room. She has no feathers left on her back and it looks like a skinned knee.
hope all had a merry holiday. My house has been enjoying the snow it is so light and fluffy. we went sledding and made snow angles. our baby goats turn a week old on xmas so they got there 1st taste of snow. it was too cute. I'm suprised to see my spring hens out in the snow and my yr olds who went in the 6ft last yr have nothing to do with it.

That is a cute pic of the little one in the nest box. Don't be letting Mike see that! You know what he might do and there goes the vacay!
The vacay is sort of done for anyway BOO! He found out yesterday that he has to go up to Mn for a bit in January for work. I might try and sneak up there with him but only if the roads aren't bad.
After returning home and all the chickens doing their "happy happy, joy joy dance", I went down and did inventory of the last hatch. Chicken sitter told me one chick died and only one egg did not hatch! So have 4 Orloffs (all hatched on their own), and 4 Vorwerks. a vorwerk egg was the one that did not hatch. I have hatched many Vorwerks and they have all looked like cute little bumble bees. This time, 2 of them are oddly colored. Will include pics later.
Hi everyone,
I'm in Maquoketa and just had a terrible hatch! I had 11 eggs in the 'bator and only 1 hatched, a little Golden-Laced Wyandotte. I am trying to find another chick so s/he isn't lonely! Does anyone know where I might find just one chick at this time of year? Poor little Fluffy...
Thanks for any/all help! We just moved here from Colorado and I am not familiar with a lot of the area.
