I'm not sure if anyone besides Eric (mranmrschicken) have any chicks at this time.

Where did you move from in Colorado? We lived in Fort Collins for about 5 years in the 90's.

I did a short stint in Grand Junction many years ago! (still covered wagons moving through)!

You might try Trish, Flash Point Farms, to see if she's got any newborns or someone she knows a bit closer to you. It would not be cost effective to send down one chick. However... if you wanted more, that could be arranged. I can tell you the shipping would run $25.00! So you'd have to make it worth the express shipping cost. If they are day olds it's cheaper but after that they must be sent express mail per regulations. You are always welcome to drive up here too unless I can make a road trip?; and meet somewhere in the middle. I live in the Okoboji area, way up in the opposite corner.......

Troy........ PM me your email addy and I will forward her message to you. I finally got a reply from her and she said email away but this way you can keep up on what we discussed. Or, email me at:

Looks like were in for another blast of winter up here. It rained all night long (sprinkled), and all that has done is make the ice more slick even though it's not freezing. Gonna let the girls out today. Might be the last chance for a while...

Thanks for the welcome! We lived in Broomfield, just northwest of Denver. We had eight illegal chickens

there and had to leave them with a friend when we moved. I love it here (in IA, and BYC). People are so friendly.
I will continue trying Schlecht today, and I might call mypetchicken. I know they have a three chick minimum but their earliest listed ship date is the end of February.

Fingers crossed!

iowachks- welcome to BYC! Glad you found this thread. There's a great bunch of folks that subscribe to this one!

I'm currently hatching some of my friend Liz's (ShowMeGirl) Silkies for Troy. This is day 8 though. Wish I could help. All of my other chicks are juveniles and are feathered out. I don't know of anyone else that is hatching this time of year. The number of people that are this devoted to the fancy are few and far between! Except here on BYC of course!

I can hatch you out some if you would like. You can check out my website for breeds. You could come and pick them up and save the shipping.

I have a three year old who makes road-tripping across Iowa a pain in the neck! Thanks for being willing though! I have family up your way, in Marcus (Cherokee county)- small world. Schlecht is really close to me so I'll keep trying their number- no one's picking up!
Thanks Trish- I'll let you know by the end of the day!
Thanks again!

Welcome Iowachks! I'm not too far from you - west of CR, but no little chicks either, sorry.

ksf59 is a BYCer in the New Year's Eve hatch. Don't know him personally, but he's from NW IA. So far it looks like he'll have babies so you might check with him

Thats funny cause my nephew lives outside Marcus, my sister and bil, live west of Cleghorn and my mom lives in Cherokee! Any of your family planning on visiting you? I should add that my chicks are all bantams if that matters?

I should add that I have a 10 and 13 yr old that are just as difficult to travel with!

We have one bantam and she's thoroughly entertaining.

My family out there is pretty distant- mostly second and third cousins whom I have not seen since I was 11. You are six hours from me, so I'll keep looking on this side of the state. Thanks though!! I was hoping kids would get easier to travel with...darn!

Well sorry to hear about your cruddy weather up there Eric. It is cloudy here but balmy like a spring day. All the garage chickens are outside enjoying the fresh air.
The "big girls" are chasing each other back and forth. Too bad it is only for today.

It was funny when I brought the Iowa Blues out to play, the first thing Big Blue did was try to hook up with my 3 1/2 year old cuckoo maran hen. She gave him the biggest stink eye and then pecked his head.

I really want to put these guys out in the coop permenantly but I worry about the three EE's and one of the IB pullets. They all seem small compared to the rest, making them still in the range of sizes the hawk would love to grab.

BTW Trish that EE roo is a total sweetheart. He still has a snotty nose and he just lets me pick him up and wipe it for him over and over.
I am going to try and find a way to keep him. The other two still looking like pullets

Well I am off to the feed store now. Need cat food, chicken food, cracked corn and some wild bird food. There goes around $50. The temp is supposed to drop back down tomorrow and that means the roads will get slick - blech!

Sounds like we are in for more snow tomorrow. Some are saying up to 10" or more! Do you have your path cleared to the chicken house Joy? You might need to tarp it off or build an underground tunnel.....?
