Thanks Trish. I've been pretty bored so far this winter ( well I should be doing some housework stuff that I don't want too) but anywho, I am thinking of creating some kind of portable run in the garage once my hubby gets the furnace out there fixed. Obviously I can't build a permanent structure outside at this point.

The dumb butt dogs got a hold of another banty ( I thought everyone was locked up - I missed a black frizzled cochin that was under the coop) They plucked her like a turkey dinner. She is bareback and bruised but doing OK - she likes the warm basement.

The dogs are well behaved on their own or in the house but they have definitely developed a hunting pack mentality out in the yard. My bichon is the only one that doesn't participate. She has her own issues...

I am trying to decide if I want to do puppy kindergarten again with Tucker or try to sweet talk them into letting him into the beginners class. He misses the 6 month old cutoff by a week for beginners. He is becoming a very serious minded dog, always watching, observing, thinking.

Here is poor Jets back:

OMG Steph! That poor chicken looks like a Christmas goose!

Trish, the snow up here is strange. We can get it from any direction it just depends on how it tracks. The last couple years we've gotten more snow then since the '76 blizzard when they were chopping up cows frozen on the highways with the big blowers. Folks in town would find a cow standing by their back door. I remember our house was so drifted in, my mom opened a window to let the cat and dog outside to walk, window level, across the top of a snow drift to do their thing. I suppose we all have memories of those things. Oh and the furnace going out cause the vent stack got plugged with snow! My father was terrified of gas to the point of needing tranquilizers! I would have gladly used the the gun...... he would just freak out. So I was 13 or 14, taking the flue apart inside, clearing it and melting it out, reassembling and re-lighting the furnace while he was hiding under the bed or pacing the floor, sure we would all blow up. What a weirdo.

Loras mother was funny. She used to fill the bathtub up with water??? They were all so weird! I just knit caps for my chickens. Thats normal.

She is not as bad as it looks. There are two small raw spots but the rest is just missing feathers. This is why I lock up the chickens when the dogs are out in the yard.
They (the dogs) go out at 5:15, 10 am. Then the birds get to come out. I walk the puppies around 1pm. The birds seem to all go back in the coop around 4-5. Then the yard is the dogs for the rest of the day. It works well unless I don't check under the coop

Yesterday the chickens pushed going back in as late as they could. They knew that the bad weather was going to return. I had to put the garage chickens in the coop. They were most unwelcome. The two "pullet" EE's ran from me, but they knew to go for the coop because P. had taught them at least that much before she passed. They were just afraid to go in the door because I had a BC maran bouncer hen by it

It is officially sleeting here now and the forecast is for approx. one inch. Of course the ice is bad enough. At least we may skip the 10" but high winds may be prevelent.
Finally got the pics taken of the white Orloffs, enjoy! Maybe not! I can't figure out the %@$*&%@! photobucket account! They changed it all and it won't let me click and drag!

We don't have freezing rain yet, but it's on it's way! I fell on the ice twice yesterday at work.

I'm a little sore, but I'll live.

We have well water, and fill our bathtub with water if we're gonna lose power so we can still flush the toilet.

Had 18 goat kids born by the time I left work yesterday. Well, 19, but one didn't make it.

The roads are pure ice here in Des Moines, they closed I-235 due to a 7 car pile up. When I went out to check on the garage chickens (they are outside) everyone had little icicles on their feathers. I brought the small silkie and the stunted Ia Blue pullet inside. Everyone else was walking around eating/drinking and those two were just hunkered down with their eyes closed. They will be Jets roommates for now.

Jet was sitting directly under the heat lamp basking her naked skin. I hope she doesn't mind sharing.

Well back to cleaning. We are just going to have an Uno tournament tonight with the kids. No one wants to go out in this crud.

Everyone have a great and safe New Year!

ETA: I think I figured out this high tech download stuff. If anyone wants to see bigger pics of the Orloffs, I can now provide them.

Yep, we're staying in too. We were supposed to go to Iowa City for a party tonight, but after spending the morning fixing fence in the freezing drizzle I reconsidered that. (Drat that percheron) Oh, I'll drive it in 8 inches of snow, like last weekend, but not ice! I'll probably get online instead and track the hatching on Mahonri's thread

Happy New Year everybody!
