IA here

I'm about ready to give up locking up the IA Blues. Their "coop" is made of 6 foot chainlink panels set inside our big barn. Half the top is covered by a tarp, but I find them out every morning

I think they stay in until they hear me come in to the barn then they track me down. I built them a roost but they prefer to perch high up on the stall walls. Thankfully we've never had any killed by predators and I believe we took care of the local racoon population for the time being.

Sorry I sneezed your direction! I got hit with that bug twice last month, two weeks apart. Time to boil the children?

I can't imagine the chickens staying out overnight up here with a 13F w/c.
Don't let the comet teach the other ones her wicked ways! For chickens can be copy cats!
I think it might be time to medicate or give them all some vitamins to boost their systems. Still alot of sneezers but, no really sick ones. maybe just dusty and they need to get outside? They are all quite perky and still want their treats! Maybe I'll add some cyanne pepper to their feed....

Still feeling queezy today and now the stupid tooth is hurting. I don't want to take anything for it because I am sure it will just come right back up. I need to be over this today. The tooth is supposed to get fixed tomorrow.

Is spring here yet?

My goofy husband made himself some chicken salad last night then brought some in the bedroom and said "Here, try it - its really good"

Sometimes he just doesn't think.

The Iowa Blues don't seem to care what the temp is! I turned off their heat lamp 'cause they quite using it. When the wind is strong from the west it blows a bit through their side of the barn and they snuggle up on the hay, but mostly they perch on the pipe gates or the edge of the muck bucket.

Now the big babies in the main coop are wimps. Those Cochins and BRs I got from Trish have twice the bulk but insist they are freezing when the temps drop below 20! I need to get pics posted - those Cochins are lovely birds!

I think I found where the gold comet and IB were hiding themselves. The neighbor has a big pile of branches steps away from my fence and up against her shed. There is a perfect little "cave" that would have protected them from the wind.

I have one Ia. Blue inside for now. She is stunted from "the illness" and doesn't seem to handle the really cold, windy days. In fact there are 4 birds down there right now.

Thinking maybe will just move those 4 out to the garage. Jet's back looks dried out but better and feathers are starting to grow back in. She doesn't really like being in the house but thats just the way it is.

I just let the birds out for the day after giving the dogs one more yard play time. You would *think* that with the big bowl of food they have in there, they wouldn't chase me to the fence for more food. Their problem is they have picked it clean of cracked corn and I ain't gettin' them no more food until they eat the layer crumbles.

Did I tell you I am already tired of feeling sick?

UGG! I am surrounded by diseased people, but so far I've been lucky! Hope you feel better soon!

So far am keeping everything down today. Might try the medicene for the tooth. I need to go to the store for milk and maybe some orajel or something, but that seems like too much work. I wish my 16 year old was home - I would send her. Stupid school always ruining my plans of enslaving my child...

11:15 tomorrow - can't come soon enough. My head is pounding and all I want to do is take a nap but when I lay down the tooth hurts really bad.

The DD is on her way home now to go get orajel and some milk. It's the first time I am grateful for early out every Wednesday
