Those Buttercups can put out a good sized egg for not being LF. I'd kinda forgotten that.

Got the new brooder built yesterday. I still want to put a window in the side, but that will have to wait. I am anxious for the Gypsy egg hatch. My last hatch was only 2 Orloffs and 3 Vorwerk. The Vorwerk chicks look like midgets next to the Orloff chicks!

I found an egg that was rotten. I didn't know it and it broke in the pocket of my winter coat. (It was not freezing outside.) I carried it back to the house unbroken, put my hand in my pocket and it exploded. I brought my hand out then the smell hit me and I puked on the driveway. I took my coat off and wiped my hand with it and left it outside. The smell was so putrid. Disgusting.

You can smell it from outside the egg before it breaks. I am very careful with oily looking or greasy feeling or stinky eggs now. Be gentle when you throw them. They can explode with a touch.

My Dad kept an egg in the frig for years until it dried in the shell. He could shake it and hear something rattling around in it. He said it was the yolk but who knows?

one of my chicks died last night and this morning i found Godfather dead. I have no idea how old he was though and he had stopped crowing last week. but darn it i liked the little guy.
got a new cat yesterday though thats going well.

Did anyone ever figure out what happened to Lisa? I kind of miss talking to her. Also Clay is looking for meat rabbits and I thought she had some.

Been thinking her health, stayed in texas til Spring, got et by chickens, anything and everything!

I have 2 silkies comming from Florida that were shipped yesterday. My question is should I give them any special treatment for the temp change? I will give them electrolites/vitemans but 40 in the coop should be good enough? They are 2 lucky boys, I have 8 hen/pullets waiting for these guys. They have been roo free for a few weeks now. I will put up some pics when they come.
