We are in NW IA, Okoboji area.

Checked under my broody Delaware and found an adorable, all fluffed out, little Speckled Sussex chickc! She had also broken open another egg and and I was afraid she may get violent and injure the chick so put it in with the Maran chicks. It went to work immediatley eating poo and trying to find real food! Even after dipping it's beak in food and water. The Marans are very gentle with it. The chick is picture perfect, just charming!

Ha! I'm picturing you going into a flight pen and covering your face with a bunch of bat like creatures flying every which direction.

I had a flight pen of Bobwhites I got from Jay. When I'd go in there to catch them, they would do the same thing. It was crazy funny.

Steph, I clipped the one wing on all of the muscovy hens, probably a month ago, because they were setting on top of the garage and also flying and landing on the wire that goes from the yardlight pole to the house, grounded them real quick, I read somewhere that you have to keep trimming just one side , so that they can't fly' hadn't noticed anthting here starting to fly again, but will have to keep an eye out, the Ia. blues are getting accustomed to their new digs, would like to give them more room, but don't want to get breeds crossed up, still waiting for thge pullet to lay. I only have the original Muscovy hen laying so far, but the other hens have been checking out nesting boxes, so I would expect them to get started one of these days. I got the Icelandics from Camelot Farms and put them under a Buff Cochin bantam in the new coop and took 8 Icelandics from Mary out of the incubator and put them under a porcelain d'uccle hen in the new coop, so hopefully we'll have some Icelandics in a few weeks!!!
