Steph, I clipped the one wing on all of the muscovy hens, probably a month ago, because they were setting on top of the garage and also flying and landing on the wire that goes from the yardlight pole to the house, grounded them real quick, I read somewhere that you have to keep trimming just one side , so that they can't fly' hadn't noticed anthting here starting to fly again, but will have to keep an eye out, the Ia. blues are getting accustomed to their new digs, would like to give them more room, but don't want to get breeds crossed up, still waiting for thge pullet to lay. I only have the original Muscovy hen laying so far, but the other hens have been checking out nesting boxes, so I would expect them to get started one of these days. I got the Icelandics from Camelot Farms and put them under a Buff Cochin bantam in the new coop and took 8 Icelandics from Mary out of the incubator and put them under a porcelain d'uccle hen in the new coop, so hopefully we'll have some Icelandics in a few weeks!!!

I'm North of Audubon!!! WELCOME TO the two from C.B. I'm possibly going to Osceola with muscovies and guineas and possibly my white Chinese geese, the other two pair are setting, along with one turkey hen.

Thanks for the info - it was only the drake that escaped. They hate me BTW...

definitely sounds like a real petting zoo around your place - luv it!

Welcome all! I'm south of Highway 30 near Belle Plaine. Nice to find some folks closer than 2-3 hours away

My what a difference a few hours make. One minute I'm helping to push forward the return of the Iowa Blues and the next I'm burying bodies. A visitation by dogs wiped out my IA Blue flock today. I have Boss Blue still because he was locked up and one really fast pullet they couldn't catch. I'm not surprised it took me 20 minutes to get her cornered.

So. Guess I'm out of the business for now.

I had a stray dog visit today too. Well not a stray the neighbor dog. I did luck out and only a my older girls were out and they know how to hide. So didn't loose any.

Sorry to hear your lose.

How sorry and saddened I am to hear that Kari. It's awful that dogs will do that, it's awful that they run wild and destroy smaller things than themselves for game sake. Worse if they are not your dogs. Someone should be paying you a chunk of change about now.

I second that

I know it will take a while to rebuild - but once my two girls get laying I can help get you restarted if you are interested.

I candled the pheasant eggs - they are all developing...

Kari;
Do you think the guy in Iowa City, that you got the nice Blues from would have some nice stock for sale? I would certainly pay for them to continue this project.
Better yet, if it is not your dogs that did that, give the name of the owners, if you know who they are, I'll send Guido, and the "knee-cap squad" down to pay them a visit! I'll shake em down alright! I have ZERO tolerance for such things.

This reminds me I need to take pictures of the Key West chicks and a few other things. The Keys chicks are flying around already! Like pheasants! Gonna have to put them under glass!

Sorry to hear about your loss , Kari , We had the same thing happen about 8 years ago when we first started back into chickens, I left the chickens out in the morning before I went to work , wife woke up later, had worked late shift the night before, called me and said that there were dead chickens everywhere and she never even woke up or heard anything 30 dead out of about 50, she called the sheriff and all he said was that it looked like acouple of dogs just had fun!!! from then on it became, shoot first ask later! Anyway, I e- mailed Jake from Sterling, Ill, and he has eggs available, and I ordered a dozen from him, I don't know how to upload where he is, but it's like 15 days out, buy it now on e-bay, I know you hate to start back with that, just trying to help, let me know if I can help somehow !
