The hatch started Sat and finished up yesterday. I bought the incubator because none of my hens seemed to be going broody and now this morning when I went out to the coop and there sits a broody hen!!

Trish;
The Maran chicks my wife bought... are they all Cuckoo or just a little looney? Just kidding! LOL
But seriously, is that project strictly Cuckoos? Or might there be something else in there?

What a mess up here! Had a neighbor guy that does concrete work, bring over his Bobcat and rip out some lilac bushes. I was on the chain end and the pulling of the limbs out end. My shoes are toast! It's rained alot here and I got ruts the size of mount Evrest! He has some black dirt he will bring over when it dries up. I like lilacs but the neighbors always, subtly, complain about having too much shade in their garden! The purpose for the demolition is, Lora wants a garden in that space, it will be right next to the neighbors garden but I have a feeling she wants a spot she can pretty up more than just a garden. (if that makes sense). It will recieve the perfect amount of sun, all morning to late afternoon. At the hottest part of the day, it will get filtered light. So now it's her turn to work the soil. I just gotta find the timbers. It will be a raised bed but, with those huge ruts, it may be a sunken livingroom.
I know where we can get some nice fertilizer! That dirt is pitch black! Very rich soil.
Now we have 2 massive piles of branches that Lora can deal with this weekend while David and I are at St. James! At least here you can take all your yard waste to the City shed and they haul it off.

Eric,
There are several colors in there. We started with a Cuckoo Marans rooster for this project. We kept all to colors to keep the genetics diverse in case anyone wants to focus on a particular color. At the moment, I'm trying to find others that are fairly close to work on the project with me. That way I can farm out specific colors to work on. I'd like to concentrate on Black Copper and B/B/S. You could get Cuckoo, Blue Cuckoo, Golden Cuckoo, Black Copper, B/B/S, and a washed out crele.

Ooh, a new garden! How fun, but so much work. We have 2 very large gardens here. It keeps us busy in the fall canning/freezing, etc. I can't wait to have grilled zucchini again! And fresh tomatoes. And Watermelon. And sweet corn. And squash. And Lettuce. And green beans. Sigh.

Tira - stay safe - there has been some nasty weather this last week in the US of A.

On a lighter note for the S& G's I threw 2 Ia. Blue eggs in the incubator and then a Ia. Blue X silver seabright egg. That chick ought to be interesting...
