For those interested, I have one good strong little swimmer from the last batch of eggs from The Netherlands.
W/o counting my chickens before they hatch, I am feelng confident about this one. The rest got pretty scrambled.

I'm having single chick problems too

One of my cochins hatched a single and wouldn't stop sitting even though I threw the bad eggs away. The chick kept coming out of the box so I put it in with the hatchlings in the house just a couple days older at that point. Now her neighbor has an only chick and all the rest of her eggs were broken. So far it's been two days and she is still sitting. I'm afraid this one is a bit too young to put in with the others which are now raising heck in the brooder. Not sure what to do with this one.

That's too bad - he is such a pretty color

So I have this really obnoxious ameraucana roo that needs to head to auction or freezer - maybe I should bring him up for a freezer party!

What darling pictures, Amy!! She is a doll!

Eric, I see that you are putting on a chicken learning session for 4H. My oldest son recently joined 4H and wants to show chickens, eventually. Not this year....too soon. He'll probably be coming to your session, as far as I know now. He is really loving us having chickens. We'll see if he likes 4H enough to stick with it.

I noticed in my daughters 4H club that kids dropped out without active parental support/involvement. Seldom did a kid join and last if the parents didn't show support and guidance. Good Luck. Of my 4 children only 1 stayed in 4H until graduating high school. I supported each to the level they wanted to be involved. One showed cattle and hogs, eventually becoming county fair queen, my son lasted for 1 year and became involved in music. Dropped 4H and eventually became an all state violinist, the next daughter didn't want to join, and my youngest daughter showed rabbits, poultry and our dog. I hope your son enjoys the 4H experience.

Lol... I didn't have much of a choice. My mom was the secretary at the extension office for the 4-H and Ag Specialists for over 20 years. At first she had me signed up for dozens of projects and in my later years I stuck with only the horse and vet medicine. I was always volunteered for everything... Share the Fun skits, lunchstand duty at the fair, building cleanup, etc. I loved helping with the Camp Courage and Riding High programs...horseback riding for mentally/physically disabled. I was an county Ambassador later on. I was in the horse knowledge bowl and went on to coach a team while in college. Went on exchange trips out to Montana and the Black Hills. Lots of leadership seminars... The most interesting was a week and a half out in Washington DC with private tours through everything. When it came time for college, all of this looked great for scholarships.

My siblings on the other hand were a bit different. The one brother was really into his waterfowl and pigeons. He helped with most of the 4-H events too. He was even on the poultry knowledge bowl team that won nationals in Louisville KY. My little sister is one of those that did the bare minimum in 4-H and it was only because she was forced to. The youngest brother was never even a member. He liked his video games and sleep too much.

I'm not so sure that either of my younger siblings would have been involved in 4-H if Mom wouldn't have made them. At first I was forced to do alot of stuff too. Later on, I picked the projects I liked and had a ball. My parents wanted nothing to do with horses and to this day my mom is still scared of mine. 4-H gave me the opportunity to ride and show. I had really bad asthma and couldn't really partake in alot of the athletic stuff in high school. 4-H gave me a chance to get out there anyways in other avenues. I'm still a district 4-H leader...
