IA here

I dont have the time to stift thru this IA thread but there is a nice lady in Tipton, IA living in the city wants to know if she can have chickens and what are the zonings/ordiances are? Anyone from Tipton?

ask zoning. you wound get the right answer for sure then.

I have a cochin setting on 18 eggs. have no idea how long she's been there but i left her alone. keep fingers crossed a few hatch.

I'm from NE Iowa. . North of Davenport. I have 12 hens and 1 rooster, 4 rabbits (2 of which are meat), and we just had our first batch of baby meat rabbits yesterday!! We also have a cat and a dog. We have a small 1+ acre spot outside of town. Glad to see others from Iowa!!

I always thought rabbits would be the perfect meat animal, I just don't know if I could butcher them! Chickens are bad enough. I CAN do it, I just would rather drop them off at the butcher and pick them up in unrecognizable packages. Wimpy I know.

Doing a bit of research found the following for the City of Tipton, City Code: Available online.

Pg. 254 line 17 defines poultry as livestock.
Pg. 255 Ss (sub-section) 5-3-3, paragraph 3, provides for exceptions as to the keeping of livestock within City limits.
I would highly advise, strongly urge you talk to the City Clerk or Administrator about this with a positive, friendly attitude, and approach it smartly. Use words that fit within their definition of the City Code.

hatching only a week or so along i think eaten. a few where just cracked.

i had a red cochin frizz that crossed with a buff brama. the babies are feathered like a brama but single combed. boys want to show them at fair. this is my lazy way of looking it up

i'll try and get a pic of them.

sigh i did chores yesterday and all the 18 eggs were broke oh well. oh i have a question. are buff frizzles showable?

In Cochins they are. I doubt many F1 crosses will ever get a Blue ribbon. If they have brahma type and Cochin frizzle they will not do well. If they have Cochin type and Frizzle they may do well... One thing to watch is that Cochins should be so featered on the legs that you can't see their feet. Brahmas have much less leg adn foot feather. It is just too early to know what you have. If the bird does not fall into an APA class it should not do well. The Brahma tail shape will do in most crosses.
