Hello! There's one in Waverly and Maquoketa in September. There's a small one once a month in Walker, IA, but I'm thinking it wouldnt be worth the drive.
Thanks. I think i have heard of one in Winterset, think they call it an Exotic Animal Sale and i have also think i have heard of a trading post like thing just east of Chariton ??? Was hoping someone would know about these as they are close to where i live.
Anyone going to the Exotic Animal Sale in Kalona this weekend? The sheep sale is tomorrow night and then Sat. morning is the Big Horn Rams and all the exotic animals plus poultry. I am going to take a ewe with lamb to sale that will sale tomorrow night. Then Sat. morning my big horn Jacob ram will sale. I am also taking a few chickens to sale. It's always a ton of fun to see all of the exotic animals.

No, I haven't been to the Winterset sale and do not know dates. I did hear about a good one in Avoca last weekend (but I heard about it today!). I have a couple of blue andluisans, a golden comet, couple of cochins, a dark cornish who is getting picked on (poor girl), a buff orp, RIR, a Cuckoo maran roo named Jelly, and a buff silkie. I've got an extra roo, barred rock, too but he will have to find a home too. I have a couple of Welsummer chicks and a few wheaten marans chicks right now as well. My birds are all in quarantine right now as we seem to have the sneezes...
Well, so far I'm not having the best of luck with incubating. I set 46, candled at day 10 and pitched 5, only had 8 of those 41 hatch, 4 with assistance. One problem could have been during the last days b/c I couldn't keep my fiance away from the bator once the hatching started while I was at work. One chick was a good 24 hrs ahead of 6, and one 24 hrs after those. Throughout, I was very frustrated trying to get my temps/humidity set - I used 3 different digital temp/hygrometers with 2 mercury therms, and none of them match! Even the 2 mercury's don't match each other. However, I'm determined to keep trying! Anyone have any eggs (near the QCA pref.) that they'd be willing to let me continue trying out my batoring skills on?

My dh would kill me if I went to anything that had animals. One of my incubators is full of bantam eggs. The other one is waiting the arrival of my shetland goose eggs. I have some broody hens that I'm trying to resist from putting eggs under. I still have a lot of chicks. No one around here wants chicks they all want laying hens.
Skyedobb just keep trying. The first time I didn't have much luck however the second time I had a 95% hatch rate. All my chickens are mixed in together again. If you want eggs they would be mixed. Or I do have purebred bantams together still(mille fluer d'uccle, cochins(I put a black rooster, blue rooster in with mottled, blue, black and splash hens). Just let me know. I plan on putting the bantams in with the rest soon. I need room for all these chicks I have.
