I would stick with 10 max just because you dont want to slow egg production down due to overcramping! I can definately see what i can find around the couple month range! As long as your not to picky about what breed they are.

0MG aren't they horrendous? unbelievable how bad the gnats are this year. Down here in SE Iowa it's like walking through a moving black cloud no matter what time of day it is.

We are looking to add to our flock of hens. We have about a 20 x 25 area with their coop, so they have a little room to roam and play. Right now, we have 5 hens and would like to add to that. Is there anyone in here around the Des Moines area that might know where a good place to get more hens is? There is an ad on Craig's List, but my 16 yo and I are a bit hesitant to go that route.

The size of your coop is enough for 5 standard sized chickens or 8 to 10 bantams. You should figure on 4 square feet per bird of coop space and 9 to 10 square feet of run space per bird (standard size chickens). I overcrowded my barred rocks and rhode island reds and they fought constantly, one of my girls even got half of her comb ripped right off her head. They are space sensitive.

Hi! Super exciting, we hatched our first 3 chicks and 1 duckling two days ago! They're all healthy and beautiful!! However, I am curious where people sell their hatched chicks and ducks? I posted on craigslist but figured that for newborns there has to be a better way... since we will consistently be hatching now. Possibly auctions? They're Bantam Chickens and Call ducks, if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance for the advice
