He is doing great. He survived potential disaster the other day. My daughter fell asleep petting him and in the morning I flipped out cuz he wasn't in his cage. Luckily he found the electric blanket to be much more to his liking that a stupid ol' heat lamp and was curled up in it fast asleep. I'm thankful that she didn't roll on him in her sleep.
BTW - Mr. Ugly will be moving to Missouri this Sunday and of the two roosters I had about 10 people want to take him off my hands. So
baton down the hatches and coop up the birds. There's a big one coming, ya'll.
Last night I went out to pick up all the feeders/bowls so they didn't get lost in the snow. I went to get a new bale of straw to bed down the ducks in their new duck-shack when <boink> something fell on my head... then <boink boink> something else fell off the top bale from 14 feet above. Yes, 46 eggs, frozen mostly from in between the top bales hidden somehow. Yes--- I did look up there, I swear. I just thought that they had all quit laying when it got cold. 46 wasted beautiful eggs frozen solid.
Anyway, I know their tricks now, and they won't fool me again.
everyone be safe in the snowstorm. Let's hope the power stays on so I have the Internet in front of the fireplace.
When I went out yesterday to let my chickens out for the day, had several great giggles as I watched those who had never encountered snow take their first few tentative steps through the powder left overnight. What fun!
Last night one of my golden comets was outside and would not come out from under the coop. It took me about 20 minutes of laying in the snow with a stick to force her close enough to the edge where I could grab her. I tried with treats first but she wasn't gonna fall for that even. Today my hubby was kind enough to plow a path to the coop and then a big "play area" around it. The drifts out there are up to my thighs. They still won't come out of the coop
It's too windy - I don't blame them. I worry about them getting bored and fighting. I took some suet mixed with bread and tomatoes and dumped it all in the coop. That kept them entertained for a few moments. Hope everyone else is fairing well.
Mine at all in the coop too, and I have too many Roo's for that type of business. The wind doesn't stop out there on the farm, and so, so cold. Remember when we wished for this during the state fair?
