thanks for the offer, but i have all standards adn will likely stay that way due to egg sales. I was thinking about looking into ordering a rarer breed, maybe buckeyes or something, but again, can't decide. my flock is totally mixed right now with a lot of mutts, and i'm not sure i'd actually get serious about segregating a certain breed for breeding purposes, so buying something special would be silly until i get serious about propagating a breed.

Ok - I know it's a bit late but here is the picture we took of Bear in our little Christmas tree. His/her head feathers are growing in a wonderful golden red color. I am still leaning toward pullet since at 6 weeks old the comb is still little and yellow and no wattles yet. Eric - please tell me this is your experience with your birds

Bear reminds me in color of our tortise shell colored cats.

She gets her new cage tomorrow - can't wait!

Those two are sooooo cute! I am putting some eggs in the bator tomorrow morning - a couple will be showgirl or black copper maran roo X our serama hen. The BCM tries mating with her but not so sure they "line up" correctly - he kind of just sits on her

Hooked up two heat lamps in the coop and two heat lamps in the duck shack.
Almost froze myself doing it. Sure hope they love me for it.

She likes the heat lamp, I can tell you that. I haven't let the ducks out of their shack for a week. It's just too cold and the doors are too large to just leave open because my bantam call ducks will freeze.

Umm yes- free spirit is a good way to describe her. It will be interesting to see how she behaves this spring. Should be the interesting mommy who does all the fun stuff.

Thought I'd ask... Did anyones girls go on strike for a while and are they laying again? Mine have been going nuts! Must be cause it finally got above freezing with a little sunshine for them to see? Maybe cause I had to buy a bag of cheap feed?
