IA here

Back from the Keys now. Drove home in a blizzard, the kids had no school Mon. or Tues. and sounds like some more coming. We are starting to see buildings collapse up here. Primarily pole barns and metal buildings like Morton bldgs. I just hope it warms up soon and very slowly, so we don't have flooding.......
But I did order 30 chicks today! I felt kinda Springy.

Hello everyone! We have some coming year old royal palm hens for sale if anyone is looking for new blood to add to their stock. None of them are laying yet. Please PM me for more info. We live in the Cedar Rapids area. Thanks!

Should probably mention that our houses are all okay. Lots of the Marinas are having buildings collapse.

While in the keys, I was able to get a pic of a wild chicken on the streets of Key West. Saw two roosters that were twins and one hen or pullet. The hen was eating a chicken bone! They have a lot of open door restaurants or open to the streets, bars and cafes, where the folks feed the chickens. I was so rushed that I did not get the oppurtunity to take a pic of the sign that read... "Please don't feed the pigeons or chickens". I thought it was funny. Talked to one... shall I say a displaced looking person who was feeding pigeons and right there in the mix was a rooster!

One of the funnier moments was when we went to a marina called Robbies, (it's on the www.), where you buy a bucket of bait fish, a token bottle of beer, and feed the tarpons, (very large fish that look sort of carpish but very long). Saw this place on the travel channel a couple weeks before we left. Anyway, my youngest son had his bait bucket and was not paying attention as he walked out on the dock and was confronted by a pelican! They are everywhere waiting for a free lunch. If you turn your back for even a moment, they will try and stick their beak into your pail. He thought the pelican was going to jump on him and burst into tears!

At the end of the day there was... dare I say it? Okay I can't resist... "No harm no - fowl-"! Sorry bad pun but I couldn't resist. We went back to Robbies several times and we all strapped on our big boy boots and chased the offenders away without further issue.

We spent a week picking coconuts up off the street and return to picking icecicles (sp) off our noses! It was worth it to see this just a week ago today:

Eric - did you bring some of that gorgeous weather home in your suitcase??

BTW "Bear" (still trying to think of a girlie name that fits) does not have a clue she is a chicken. I put her in with my day old chicks and she cowered in a corner. Then I put her in the bathroom one day with my showgirl roo (he needed a bath - was all bloody from a broken toenail) Anywho she was looking at him like what the bejeebers are you and got all haughty with him. Her voice is now changing from the juvenile peep to a big girl sound.
