Ok I have been gone for a week......just very busy putting up food.
I thought I read the back pages but I did not see what happened at the fair??? How did everyone do?
Welcom Hattiegun your ducks are BEAUT!
Steph woo is WOW... I have great news for you Dotty is laying very dark beautiful eggs. She walked right in the front door today. I should have taken a pic. for you. She is twice as big as when I got her from you. What kind of chicken is she? Lisa

Hey Lisa - glad to hear it! I might have to hatch some more like her!
Her mom is just your average gold comet hen and her papa is my black copper maran. She gets the dark egg gene from him.

You will have to take a picture of her for me. I always liked her

Eric if you could tell me how to sneak another breed into my backyard I have always been interested in the Iowa blues since they were developed in this state.
Eric did well at the fair, my little serama got a "2".

A 2 is good right? I will hatch some of her eggs for you. Or bring you some eggs wich ever. Right now the only roo is a lt. brahma. He is still young. What kind of chicken are the little blck. ones? I think that they are pullets. But if one is a roo I might keep him .
I also have babby orpingtons I will most likely keep them to be my roo. So in the long run all my new chicks will be half orp. I raise them for meat and eggs. Right now they are eating me out of house and home. The 12 broilers eat like pigs. I think the yong chicks ate the big chickens food. My egg production is down, soooo I am feeding them way more. I would think that they would get alot from free range. But maybe not.

Got to go pay bills, and talk to the hospital about my bill. It seem wrong to have to pay a hospital bill when the did nothing to help me get better!

Lisa

You sneak them in by getting rid of some roos and then by referring to them as a rare heritage breed, the only known breed to have been developed in Iowa! There should have been a pair of these in the Hall of Breeds at the State Fair instead of Delaware! Heck Delaware has nothing to do with Iowa! they are on the endangered list.

ETA: Forgot to add that I spoke with State Fair folks today, payback should be next week by mail!

Don't increase their feed ration as much as be generous with the oyster shell in their feed. In a few days you'll have eggs rolling out of the nest box!
