We do use the garage in winter and when there is a storm, Ladywoodsong. Birds will moult once a year, sometimes if a young bird, they will lose their juvenile feathers. This time change has sure put a damper on the egg output, it has really slowed. I miss Chubbys big eggs! Now we only have some diet eggs to eat........

Well they keep flagging off that CL ad for the auction. It starts at 10:30 at the clarke county fairgrounds. I plan to be there around 9:45ish to look over the "stuff".

Glad I have a good memory for stuff I read, or I wouldn't even know where to go. I don't know why people have to flag ads like that. I suppose it is too commercial or something equally ridiculous.

Just got back from the auction. Bought some frizzled banty hens and a couple of young splash silkies. Also got a pair of silver seabrights because my husband wanted the cage they were in. Anyone want some seabrights for cheap? The rooster has the wrong kind of comb.

Then my husband got real impulsive and bought a ferret. My son was thrilled and bought him off of us! I am thrilled he is going to be it's food and care supplier rather than me...

What is your favorite and least favorite hatchery and why? I am having a tough time deciding who to go with. I am researching all of them and the one I would like to use for cost and closeness has such a limited selection I just can't do it.

I posted this on another thread on here....This is what I was planning on doing.
I want a good RIR roo. With this RIR roo I had planned to get the following pullets.... RIR, barred rock, delawares, Black Australorps, Speckled Sussex, Welsummer and Americana's.

With the RIR roo I knew I could cross with Barred Rocks for Black Sex Links,
RIR roo x Delaware is a Red Sex Link
RIR roo x RIR is a RIR

RIR roo x Black Australorp would be a mixed mutt but I think should be a good egg layer.

The other ones mentioned I just wanted a couple of them just because

I keep going back and forth on this. I am basically wanting to build a production flock that I can hatch my own chicks out from. I go back and forth on a few of the breeds above and I am also thinking about the Wyandottes. I just don't have unlimited space. I was going to get 25 chicks in the spring, get them started and laying and then start to sell off the chicks I started this year. I just have to keep a good layer flock going year round. I would like to also add a couple female IA Blues too.

Oh Trish - 4 out of the 4 surviving eggs from you have pipped and one is almost entirely zipped. I didn't have them due until tomorrow night at the earliest. I hadn't even upped the humidity yet and was walking through the kitchen when I hear "PEEP" My first thought was how the heck am I hearing the Iowa Blues clear upstairs. I just added a bunch of hot water, hope I'm not too late.
