I forgot to add to the quoted post that according to Steph, you'll need a U-Haul to get your birds at Thanksgiving time! But seriously, by then just bring one or two maybe regular sized pet taxis. It's a month away yet but they should be almost doubled by then and ready for MORE food! I'm gonna have to grind my own corn soon. Sheesh!

Guess I'll bring the stock trailer then. Not a problem for me - I love my chickies big! Speaking of big, Trish, those BRs are growing about twice as fast as the others! I'm guessing they are a little older? What are the hatch dates by the way? I never did get that written down.

They may be 4 days older, bu that's it. His is a BR line I got from a breeder from Lena, IL. They are gigantic compared to the hatchery stock I compared them to. So, it's not a big difference in age in this case, just the growth rate of this line. I think you'll be really happy with them. I sure am!!!

Hey everyone. you all sound busy, feeding and cleaning chicks.

My IA blues are doing good. Poofy is happier now. she fel in with the yong buff orpingtons. They are the same color and appear to be the same size, for now any way. I think the buffs and poofy will be buds even when the buffs grow up.

I thought today was the day for pbjmakers surgery????

I have to go to IA city tomorrow. I never heard back from the lady north of there who had some chickens for sale.... I guess that I have enough chickens now any way.

Was that me? If so, I'm so sorry about that. So busy here, getting breeding pens built, cleaning pens, fussing over show birds... you understand, I'm sure.

I talked to Gary Underwood, he said he's keeping all of his project hens. I think I'm going to follow his lead and do the same.

If you want, you call can get a hold of me late next Summer to see if I have any culls from my breeding flocks. They would still make great layers.

On another note, I'm getting some pretty dark eggs from one of my project hens. It's from one of my smallest hens too, which I'm ecstatic about. She's got the sweetest temperament too, just love this girl. She's solid black, clean legs. Definitely acts like a Marans. I only have Cuckoo and "Ghost Cuckoo" rooster. I put her in with the most typey rooster. He's the biggest one I have though. So we'll see how this mating grows.

I'm getting an egg a day from another hen right now in the main project pen. Her eggs are a plain brown.

I'll probably cull her eventually, when I figure out who she is. For now, I should keep her in case we want to make a different color than BBS or Cuckoo. We have the genetics in this flock to make just about any color we want. Keeping egg color is the hardest, most time consuming aspect of the project though.

Ok time for some real pictures

Took the Iowa Blues outside to play and was going to put them in my flower garden, but the big one decided it was time to just run and use his wings. They are having a ball out there. My poor factory hens have a kind soul after all; one of them was showing the chicks how to eat. All my birds are kind to babies, so they should be fine.

I also moved P out to the broody coop and am going to have her live out there for now. I think she will be fine. If it gets too nasty out I will re- evaluate the situation.

The best news of the day is I found my daughters left-over Fazolli's in the fridge! YES! SCORE! (I'm hungry)
