The girls are out tanning through their feathers, they think it's a Caribbean vacay!

ames area is sunshine today but cold. I built my coop like a solar green house, and it is 20 degrees warmer at least in there yay.
had a frozen egg this morning which made my dog happy. frozen craked eggs get used as a ball that my 3 legged wonder dog LOVES. He doesn't go after my chickens he goes after eggs. I've noticed my roos want nothing to do with snow but all of my this yr chicks are out playing in it. thought had to fetch my rock banny hen out of a drift. silly little girl.

This is the first time I have posted, but I follow this thread regularly. I just have to say I am so excited that I ordered by baby chicks today for delivery in April. I can't wait!

I know many of you have chicks for sale, but I ordered from McMurray because I wanted to make sure I got all the pullets I wanted and very few roos as I am looking for egg layers.

Buttercup egg looked like it dudded out :\\ the rest of the eggs looked good though and trying to do lockdown today..

Welcome, ksk!

How exciting! How many did you order and what kind? I have Black Stars and they are very good egg layers. This spring I will be adding to my flock....can hardly wait!

My hens are all big weenies. They hardly come out of the coop now and then they roost really early. Only the two "Jennies" come out. They are always looking for an extra treats.

I'm already looking forward to spring

Welcome ksk! Glad you decided to join in!

Troy, Just google the Iowa Poultry Assn. Contact them via their website to help find a tester. Get your birds tested, the tester will charge you by the bird, usually. Then there is an annual fee of $15. Not much to it.

Thanks everyone for the welcome! I ordered a few of several varieties including blue black white partridge and buff cochins, light and dark brahmas, rir, nhr, bl australorps, white rock, buff orp, barred rock, ameraucauna, speckled sussex. I think I will have 16 different varieties including my one free exotic chick! Have you all had good experiences with McMurray?
