IA here

Well today I got 7 eggs out of 15. But I had been down as low as 3. I do have a heat lamp on in there 24/7. I was doing it for warmth. Maybe I need to go back to keeping a light on in there on a timer. I have seen no egg shells just the wet spot. I had planned on getting rid of this group by fall of this year when my spring batch I get start laying. I have no idea which one might be doing this but if I see it, they are gone!

I am jealous! I have 54 hens and was feeling right good about getting 11 eggs yesterday. Now, not so much. I am going to do a major culling come spring. Have 100 new babies ordered to replace those slackers. When my babies arrive, I will need lots of help figuring out what I got...variety pak from McMurrays.

I have 20 hens of laying age and have been getting ONE egg, ON A GOOD DAY, since Thanksgiving ?? (free range, full feed, no light) Feathers all over the place, so i have been blaming it on the hens molting. But i do not have much experience with chickens so maybe something else is going on??

You are probably right - molting, plus not enough daylight hours.

Which reminds me - I need to go turn on the light
*mumbles something about buying a timer someday...

Chickens need 14 hours of light a day for their bodies to kick into laying gear. Give them a flourescent bulb, it's much cheaper! Also... boost their feed with oyster shell then in a few days you should have happy layers and full egg cartons!

Horrible weather up here in the northwest corner!!!! White out conditions out here in the country and deep drifts. I was worried about my hubby getting home ok tonight. But he made it finally.

It really got bad out today here. I couldn't see 10' in front of my truck when Iwent to pick up my wife in mason city. They kept the kids at the schools in our area blizzerd conditions.

14 hours of light per day and a boost of oyster shell in their feed and they'll be laying full force in a few days.

Troy... the lady in WA won't have eggs for a couple months, she has young pullets. She did give me the username for someone in FL that would probably have eggs now. I will PM you with that name shortly.

Im not getting any eggs either and neither is my neighbor. Molt is also taking longer then normal. I think they went into hibernation LOL.

Joy, I really thought they would let school out early, especially after the radio weatherman said police had advised extreme caution when driving on ther east - west roads!
This morning when I went down for coffee, it was 30F. It soon went to 14 and is now about -400F.
