Apparently it has not affected Sparky's spirit at all. He is already back to being a complete goofball. He has been trying different ways to get the cone off too. It's gonna be a fun 7 days...

Jason and Troy... first swap is February 5th in New Ulm, MN. (maybe I mentioned it before) Never been to one there this early in New Ulm but they are usually good for young poultry to sell, including ducks and geese. Really strict on paperwork though. Next one is the 12th or 13th in Hutchinson, this is usually a really big swap.

Oh, Steph, forgot to tell you, recall the salmon favorelle we had at the IA City show? I hatched two of her eggs at different hatches. First one is a little salmon Fav, appears to be a boy. He has a little comb and wattles and is just a quiet little cutie in with the young orloffs and dellies. He sits on the perch and looks around. The other that hatched, you'll love this, is a 1/2 Fav., 1/2 Whitey! Already feathering out Crele. This one is either gonna be a handsome/pretty or a real... only a mother can love kinda bird. Maybe a new species of feather legged, 500 toed, Ser-Salm crelevelles... He/she likes to be held but has some Whitey attitude too!

My dentist offered to pull the tooth - it was my choice. But when you pull out teeth and don't put a bridge in, eventually your teeth start to shift. Either way I was looking at the same money and a bridge would destroy the teeth on either side of the pulled one.

That's why my hubby wanted me to wait for the dental insurance to kick in.

Can anyone tell me their thoughts about how many standard size chickens I can put in a coop that is 6X12 with a 10X14 run? I want to make sure that what I have ordered for this spring delivery won't be too many for the coop. I don't want them crowded, but I want enough to keep themselves warm in the winter without needing more than a heat lamp if necessary.

I am also looking a putting together a kit of vet supplies if they would ever be needed. Any recommendations on what to put in there? I have some Tylan 50, electrolytes, and some yellowish medicated powder...not sure without looking at it, but picked it up at the local feed store.

I think you made the right call actually, my dentist said my jaw might be put out of alignment when I had my last two wisdom teeth removed. Indeed, now my jaw pops constantly and sometimes gets stuck crooked. When that happens my teeth don't meet, it's agony to chew and my neck won't turn for a week

(the jaw bone is connected to the headbone, the headbone is connected the neckbone, etc...) No fun. My guess is there is a more effective diet plan too

I'm really not sure from personal experience since I free range mine and most of the adults choose to roost in the barn rafters instead of the coop, but if you figure 4 square feet in the coop per bird you could probably keep 15 - 18?

I would recommend adding Blue Cote spray, blood stop powder, antibiotic ointment to your first aid kit. I had a group of agressive young ones that would pull out eachothers tail feathers and they would bleed like crazy. The bloodstop powder will stop the bleeding, antibiotic ointment on the wounds then bluecote to prevent the wound from attractng attention. Once they see blood they won't stop picking

I'd also recommend keeping a hen saddle/ hensaver on hand if you have a rooster. I found that once they start losing feathers they are practically naked by the time your order arrives!

I am from Eastern Iowa and still new to the BYC forum. I have followed this thread for quite some time, but haven't posted much. Still not sure how to do...especially to directly respond to a post. Sorry!

I ordered 34 chickens total and with a free one from McMurray I will have 35 total. Some have told me that would be fine for the one building...but I am not sure. We are considering letting them free range some, but aren't quite sure. We do have a second coop that is 8X8 we could use, but my husband wanted to keep them all in one building. We still have to build an outside run for the one, but wouldn't be too much trouble.

I ordered a few of each of the following breeds: Americaunas, Barred and White Rock, Bl Australorps, Buff Orp, Lt and Dk Brahma, NH Red, RIR, Speckled Sussex as well as Black, Buff, Partridge, White and Blue Cochins. I am excited to get them in April, but if I need to order less for the size of building(s) we got I need to change the order before April.

THE TOOTH IS FIXED!!!!!

Now my tongue and lip are numb and I can't eat for 2 more hours. Why is it that I can't eat for two hours makes me feel even more hungry?
