Delaware chicks moved, two week old chicks out of basement and in the garage brooder and a couple pens cleaned out! And soon new puppies hatching!

I'm in Eastern Iowa too! Welcome! I think the coop is too small for 35 birds. 4 square feet per bird would give you 18 in the 6x12 and 16 in the 8x8 (is my math right, anyone?

I am near Clarence Iowa. Giving this quote thing a try. Hope it works. I agree that 18 and 16 would be most appropriate for the buildings. I will have to convince my husband!

Hello new Iowa friends. I have 54 hens, black sex-link, Orps, Re sex-links, and cornish mutts. I have 102+ Assorted heavy layers and 1 SLW Rooster ordered from McMurray due the week of the 30th. I am SO anxious! I posted pics of my brooder on the brooder thread. Please comment. I did have it set up in the hen house, which is large and drafty. But DH finally relented to give up a corner of his man-cave. Waiting for me peeps...and waiting...and waiting...and waiting...

I think it will depend on if you ordered all pullets or straight run. If you didn't specify pullets you will have to re-home (or eat any extra roosters so that may bring you down to a comfortable number

Also be aware you may get Easter Eggers instead of Ameraucanas. They'll have the blue egg gene but won't meet the color or type for pure Ameraucana. Just warning you 'cause some folks can be touchy about that

We're practically neighbors! 45 minutes! If you want 35 birds why not push for a new coop? Heh heh.

Enjoy the little babies when they come, I still have to make my breed decisions...

I think you made the right call actually, my dentist said my jaw might be put out of alignment when I had my last two wisdom teeth removed. Indeed, now my jaw pops constantly and sometimes gets stuck crooked. When that happens my teeth don't meet, it's agony to chew and my neck won't turn for a week

(the jaw bone is connected to the headbone, the headbone is connected the neckbone, etc...) No fun. My guess is there is a more effective diet plan too
