Everyone must be out playing in the snow today - it's awful quiet on here...

Did anyone see it is supposed to be 31 in Des Moines tomorrow - forget Florida - I'll just stay here!

It's in the single digits here in Pa

We put in 5 Buttercup eggs last night. I hope at least 3 hatch!! Or better..all of them! I also took my austrorps egg since she was about to lay one day when I was in with the chickens.

I don't think its fertile, but Im gonna try

We will keep collecting eggs, and when jerrit FINALLY sends the money to someone off FB with EE eggs, we will put whatever buttercup eggs we get in with those eggs.

Today when i was out at the chicken coop with 23 hens and 3 rooster Maran chickens that are two months old, and one older hen that is blind, i found an egg

laying on the floor!!! First egg around here since ???? Most likely the old blind hen layed this egg ?? Right ? I guess i was thinking since she could not see the light, she would not lay eggs. Or would a Maran hen two months old have layed an egg ?? I am sure the three roosters did not lay it !!!!!

Dontcha love suprises like that? I've been getting a lovely tiny blue egg with white spots every 3-4 days and I have no idea who is responsible. She even snuck one in under the broody Cochin, so I guess we'll see if it hatches. Kinda doubt it. As cold as it's been I don't know if those eggs could survive her popping off the basket even a few minutes at a time to take care of business. It doesn't look like any of the Ameraucana eggs I was getting last fall and I THINK all 3 were laying by October (7 months) The new AMs are only 15 weeks now. It must be one of the older hens now that I think on it

Ah well back to Monday....

We had a bug over the weekend. Nausea with vomiting, we all were white as a ghost. I think we got it from Liz's kids, bringing it home from school. I'm much better today, so the good thing is, this doesn't seem to last long. It just hits hard. My hubby is home from work today.

Kari, one of my spash hens puts white spots on her blue eggs. It's the prettiest thing. Hope your eggs under your broody make it.

Eric, I would be all kinds of stressed out with that puppy fiasco.

Is it ever going to warm up around here?

I just feel so bad for the hormonal ladies I can't bear to mess with them. She only has two eggs cause everything else laid has been frozen without a doubt

thats so cute. my RIR likes to set on her egg for about 30 min then she gets bored. that is the closest i have to a broody hen.
high here today is a 26 yay. friday i'm hearing 35.
Boys have a 4 day weekend, hubby worked all weekend and a 12 hour today.
i'm thinking a animal shelter trip to love on some critters than a feed store trip.
have a baby goat with a cough worried about that so really glad for the warm up.

I love your bucket O Splash! Thats good. Better than finding them inside a feed bucket after the lid flipped upside down on them and locking them in......

Your flu bug brings back horrible memories.. When will the world warm up? Were you able to get together with Jason before being bugged?

The sil and bil arrived in Islamorada yesterday and had to call a rub in the wonders and WARMTH of it all. Lora begged, pleading for an answer to her question about the water and it's incredible blueness. And yes, it's still beautiful blue.....

lora, went to mil and fil's yesterday, it has been before Thanksgiving since mil has been out o9f the house. They are still intent on having a puppy. Supposedly have a plan and a new oxygen bottle, a portable one, on the way. The 6 million dollar dog.

It is warm enough that I kicked all the girl chickens outside today. Even the ones that have never been out! They were not to thrilled at first but I think lots of good dirt to eat under the deck will make them warm and happy. The boys are hating it. Crowing up a storm! They want their women folk back! Send out the cavalry!!!
